A few campgrounds open in Central Oregon, but snow delaying others

If you’re thinking of going camping this weekend, our late winter weather has other plans.

Some campgrounds on the Deschutes National Forest are still closed due to snow and for safety inspections

The following campgrounds opened Friday for first-come, first-serve camping:

Bend-Fort Rock Ranger District

  • Big River Campground
  • Big River Group Camp
  • Pringle Falls Campground
  • South Twin Lake Campground
  • West South Twin Campground

Sisters Ranger District

  • Candle Creek Campground
  • Graham Corral Horse Camp
  • Lower Canyon Creek Campground
  • Pioneer Ford Campground
  • Sheep Springs Horse Camp

Campgrounds with delayed openings include

  • Bull Bend Campground
  • Cow Meadow Campground
  • Lava Lake Campground
  • Quinn River Campground
  • Rock Creek Campground
  • Sheep Bridge Campground
  • East Davis Lake Campground
  • Princess Creek Campground
  • Simax Group Camp
  • Sunset Cove Campground
  • Link Creek Campground

The Ochoco National Forest also shared drone video from Walton Lake, showing there is still plenty of snow there. The forest says it’s monitoring to determine an opening date.
