The Wickiup Road fire burning near Post held overnight at 101 acres and is now 80% contained, according to fire officials.
Operation Section Chief Ted Adams said Monday crews would work to secure containment lines while paying attention to the weather as hot dry conditions and pop-up thunderstorms with lightning were expected.
A Red Flag Warning has been issued for most of Central Oregon, excluding Sisters, for dry thunderstorms. The warning will be in place from 4:00 pm Monday through 11:00 pm Tuesday.
The fire, burning in the Riverside Ranch area five miles west of Post – about 20 miles east of Prineville – sparked Saturday afternoon and quickly destroyed two homes and multiple outbuildings in the remote area.
It also prompted “be set” evacuation notices for a couple of subdivisions in the area as the fire burned on Sunday.
