The Warm Springs S-503 Fire spans 6,679 acres and is at 95% containment as of Monday morning, according to Warm Springs Fire Management.
Firefighters and engine crews have worked on cooling hot spots and advancing into the interior of the fire containment line for several days. Firefighters are continuing to mop up areas of heat to create a perimeter around the fire’s edge.
Javin Dimmick with Warm Springs Fire Management said a priority of the team and the firefighters is the safety of those who are working, as the region is swept with a historic heat wave. Cooling tents have been set up for firefighters during the anticipated record temperatures.
As the temperature rises, there’s increased potential for fire activity. Firefighters are prepared to respond to new starts today on the Warm Springs Reservation and surrounding areas.
A Level 1 “Get Set” evacuation notice remains in place for all residences west of Kelly Springs Road, along with anything east of Kelly Springs to Reservation Road. That includes the communities of Pine Grove and Walters Corners.
