Warm Springs man killed after being hit by pickup on Highway 97 in Redmond

A person spotted on highway Highway 97 near Redmond was struck and killed by a pickup early Tuesday morning, the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) said.

The collision happened around 12:19 a.m. 

DCSO said 911 received a call about a person sitting in the median of an unlighted portion of Highway 97 near the NE Maple Avenue overpass.

At some point, the person was in the right northbound lane when he was hit by a Ford F-150 driven by a Redmond man.

The victim, identified as Corey Lee Smith, 52, of Warm Springs, died at the scene. The pickup driver and passenger were not hurt.

The northbound lanes of Highway 97 were closed for about three hours, DCSO said.
