Virtual class to prepare mentors for C.O. kids with incarcerated parents

A pair of COPY buddies

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office’s Central Oregon Partnerships for Youth (COPY) will host a 3 1/2 hour virtual class on Sept. 25 to train volunteers to mentor Central Oregon children with an incarcerated parent.

Volunteers will go through training and background checks before they are matched with a child in Bend, Redmond, Sisters, or La Pine who shares similar interests.

They will need to commit to spending a few hours a week of quality time with the assigned child for at least one year.

The virtual class will cover program policies, how to establish a mentor relationship, the impact of incarceration on children and families, communication skills and safety.

The class is free of charge and requires advanced registration.
