A video clip of a mother encouraging her 12-year-old daughter to beat-up a classmate went viral on Facebook this week and has now sparked an online petition.
The video, taken by a bystander at the Les Scwhab Amphitheater in April, shows bend woman, Sierra Brown, and her boyfriend, Charles Durand, telling Brown’s daughter to grab her classmate by the neck, take her to the ground and punch her in the face.
Brown and Durand were both charged with menacing, disorderly conduct and harassment.
Video of the fight resurfaced after the father of the 13-year-old victim confronted Brown and Durand at their home with a baseball bat.
Jesse Gomez was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct, assault and harassment.
An online petition surfaced asking District Attorney John Hummel to drop all charges against Gomez saying that he was, “protecting his daughter when the written law failed him.
Hummel says his decision will involve more than a petition.
As of this afternoon, the petition has collected more than 2,000 signatures. A court date has not yet been set for Gomez but Brown and Durand are both due in court on the 14th.
