The top of Lava Butte is temporarily closed to vehicles, the U.S. Forest Service announced Monday.
The closure is due to construction on the road between the Lava Lands Visitor Center’s entrance station and the Lava Butte road gate, which is part of the north parking lot repaving project.
Bikers and hikers can still access the butte, and should observe all posted signage around the construction area for directions to the pedestrian gate.
Project managers say cars should be able to access the top of the butte again on Friday, Sept. 17, with construction to be finished on Thursday, Sept. 16.
Lava Lands Visitor Center and surrounding trails are still open, with parking available in the south parking lot.
