Sen. Merkley Hosts Town Halls in Central Oregon

Senator Jeff Merkley was in Central Oregon today, hosting town halls and taking questions from local residents. Central Oregon Daily stopped by two of the town halls, one in Madras and the other in Bend. Reporter Anyssa Bohanan has more from the town hall in Bend this afternoon.

Oregon Democratic Senator Jeff Merkley tried to visit an immigration detention facility in Texas over the weekend. However he was denied access to the building, which prompted the Senator to question what is going on behind the closed doors of immigration detention facilities, some of which house children that have been seperated from their families.

Senator Merkley Holds Three Consecutive Town Halls in Central Oregon

The new health care plan being debated in Congress was the hottest topic at three town halls hosted by Senator Jeff Merkley in Central Oregon over the weekend.

Central Oregon Daily’s Curtis Vogel went to Madras, Prineville and Redmond, where constituents expressed their concerns about the proposed American Health Care Act.

Senator Merkley Makes His Case Against Supreme Court Nominee

In the third of his three Central Oregon town halls on Saturday, Senator Jeff Merkley closed out his appearance in front of more than 500 people at Ridgeview High School in Redmond by explaining why he will oppose Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch, whose confirmation hearings will begin on Monday.

At the first of his three Central Oregon town halls on Saturday, Senator Jeff Merkley tackled questions on everything from health care to Supreme Court nominee Neil Gorsuch before 120 people at the Performing Arts Center in Madras.

The final question was asked by a high school student named Ryan, who had an insightful query about automation and innovation and what it’s going to do to jobs in the future.
