Big Changes In Professional Rodeo

Imagine if Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers and Ben Roethlisberger all decided to leave the NFL and start a different football league, and you get a sense of the kind of shake up that happened in the world of professional rodeo during the past year. Last year, the High Desert Stampede in Redmond was the site of the launch of a new professional tour called the Elite Rodeo Athletes, featuring most of rodeo’s biggest names, who had a stake in the success of the tour.

This week, the ERA announced it was a suspending its tour in 2017, leaving the High Desert Stampede with no event to host.

Central Oregon Daily’s Eric Lindstrom looks at how the stampede’s organizer dealt with the last-minute changes for this year’s rodeo.
