SUV crashes into La Pine post office; no one injured

An SUV plowed into the side of La Pine’s post office Thursday, but no one was injured in the accident, according to the La Pine fire chief.

The crash happened around 12:45 p.m. when a Lincoln Navigator drove into the south wall of the post office. The driver was able to get out on their own and did not require any medical treatment, said Fire Chief Mike Supkis.

“Although busy with the pre-holiday rush, no occupants were injured. However, many PO boxes were damaged and the vehicle projected into the post office lobby,” he said.

Firefighters were able to stabilize the SUV and were evaluating the building for structural integrity. The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office was on the scene to investigate the crash. There was still no word on what caused the crash.

La Pine postal authorities told Supkis they intend to keep the front counter open in a different part of the building, but said access to the parking lot and PO boxes might be blocked.
