Redmond woman dies in rollover crash near Alfalfa

A 32-year-old Redmond woman died Sunday when her Subaru rolled several times on Alfalfa Market Road, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. William Bailey said the crash happened about 9:45 p.m. near Todd Road. He said it appeared the car was driving east on Alfalfa Market Road when it left the road, overcorrected and rolled multiple times.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office shared this image of the area from earlier in the day showing icy conditions.

The driver, Rachael M. Hedges, died at the scene. Bailey said it did not appear that Hedges was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash and she was ejected from the car. Icy roads contributed to the crash, he said.

Alfalfa Market Road between Juniper Road and Todd Road was closed in both directions for about 4 hours during the investigation.  Investigators are still determining whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.  Hedges’ next of kin has been notified.

This investigation is ongoing.  If you have any information, please contact the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office at 541-693-6911.
