A 27-year-old Redmond man died Saturday when his kit plane crashed after takeoff at the Prineville Airport.
Police said Jackson Edwards took off from the airport around 12:40 and crashed within about 180 yards of the runway.
Prineville Police officers, Oregon State Police, and the Crook County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene and attempted lifesaving measures, but Edwards was pronounced dead a short time later.
It appears mechanical failure contributed to the crash, according to Sgt. Robert Gray.
