Every week, High Country Disposal services more than 12,000 customers across the city of Redmond.
But a new ordinance passed by the city council this week will allow customers to sign up for trash pick up every other week rather than weekly.
“There are people who might be single household residents, or seniors that may not be producing as much trash, and some people are working to reduce their waste which is definitely a positive so for those folks they might need a weekly service,” said Susan Baker, Republic Services/HCD manager.
While Baker says she’s not sure how many people will opt in for the service, she says the change is a good one.
“It’s been a positive response from the folks that were looking for more options that were provided so it’s definitely a win-win,” she said.
The ordinance will take 30 days to go into effect. While the final rate for the new biweekly service has yet to be determined, it’s expected to be less than the current weekly rate.
“We’ll be meeting with the city in the next couple of weeks to finalize things but the soonest it would happen would be the end of March,” Baker said.
Customers hoping to opt in for the service will need to contact High Country Disposal directly.
