Recovered body identified as Prineville homeless man

Prineville Police on Tuesday identified the body found near Combs Flat Road last week as 64-year-old Brian Lee Colbert.

Police Capt. Larry Seymour said officers were dispatched on Friday to a man lying face down in Ochoco Creek near St. Charles Way under a bridge. The location was one of the areas visited by the local homeless community. Upon arrival, officers pulled the man, later identified as Colbert, from the water. Officers determined Colbert was deceased and was beyond lifesaving efforts, Seymour said.

A preliminary investigation did not find any evidence of robbery (in possession of $90), foul play, or signs of a struggle. A deputy medical examiner and a representative from the Crook County DA’s Office responded to the scene.

Seymour said Colbert was part of Prineville’s homeless community and had history with mental illness, drugs, and alcohol. PPD Officers have, on more than one occasion, had to pull him from the water during times of suspected drug use.
