Providers Work to Prevent Sleep-Related Infant Deaths

Deschutes County has seen an increase in sleep-related deaths in infants. Between 2012 and 2017 fourteen infants in Deschutes County died in their sleep due to suffocation or strangulation. Five of those deaths occurred in 2016 as compared to just one death in 2012.

In order to help counter-act this trend, Central Oregon health care providers are working to raise awareness about safe sleeping practices.

Central Oregon Daily’s Anyssa Bohanan spoke with one local health provider about how to best keep sleeping babies safe.
