The Prineville Police Department is planning a proactive approach to Labor Day weekend.
From Aug. 20 through Sept. 7, deputies will participate in the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) High Visibility Enforcement.
The practice is a universal traffic safety approach, making law enforcement highly visible on the roads to deter traffic violations.
Prineville PD’s goal is to increase the number of officers on the street to keep an eye out for the usual increase of impaired drivers over Labor Day weekend, according to Police Services Manager James Peterson.
They want to encourage drivers to drive responsibly, use designated drivers, and use drive shares and taxis when under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Enhanced enforcement is provided through overtime funding from the Oregon Department of Transportation, NHTSA and Oregon Impact.
