Prineville PD to focus on seatbelt enforcement in coming weeks

  |

Prineville Police Department announced Tuesday they will be focusing specifically on seat belt and child safety restraint enforcement in the coming weeks.

Between May 23 and June 5, Prineville PD and other law enforcement agencies around the state will participate in what they call a ‘Seatbelt Enforcement Blitz’, using federally funded overtime to work specifically on seat-belt related violations.

This will include a focus on making traffic stops when they see a violation of those laws during that time.

Oregon Department of Transportation crash data for 2020 revealed that lack of seat belts and child restraints were a leading cause in 32%, or 100 of a total 311, motor vehicle fatalities.
