Prineville motorcyslist dies in Redmond crash

A Prineville motorcyclist died Thursday after a two-vehicle crash in Redmond, according to police.

Redmond Police Lt. Eric Beckwith said authorities responded at 3:26 p.m. to a crash involving an automobile and motorcycle at the intersection of SW Veterans Way and S 1st Street in Redmond.

The motorcycle operator, identified as 45-year-old Chad Welsh of Prineville, was reported as losing consciousness immediately after the crash but was responsive when medics arrived. Welsh was taken to St Charles in Bend with life-threatening injuries. He died shortly after arriving at the hospital, Beckwith said.

The accident remains under investigation and no determination of fault has been determined at this time.

Beckwith said early information indicates the motorcycle was traveling east on SW Veterans Way and collided with a left-turning vehicle emerging from S 1st Street. A third vehicle was indirectly involved in the crash and had been traveling east on SW Veterans Way directly in front of the motorcycle before turning right onto S 1st Street.

All drivers remained at the scene and are cooperating with the investigation. Officers were at the scene for several hours. The investigation is ongoing and may take several weeks to conclude, Beckwith said.

Witnesses to the crash who have not spoken to law enforcement are encouraged to contact the Redmond Police Department by calling Dispatch, 541-693-6911.
