A Bend woman was arrested on drunk driving charges Tuesday night after police say she rear-ended a vehicle and drove away from the scene – driving against traffic.
Sgt. Wes Murphy said the incident started just after 6 p.m. when multiple people called to report that a vehicle had rear-ended another vehicle near the intersection of S. Highway 97 and Badger Road.
Witnesses said the driver, later identified as 56-year-old Denise Lovejoy, was possibly drunk.
She left the area before officers could arrive and a witness said Lovejoy drove off in the wrong lane of travel.
An officer responding to the crash saw a vehicle in front of him heading in the wrong direction; the officer turned to follow it but it failed to pull over for about a third of a mile.
The officer then arrested Lovejoy, citing her for DUII, felony failure to perform the duties of a driver, reckless endangering and other charges.
