A pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Highway 97 in Madras Tuesday night, according to police.
Sgt. Steve Webb said the incident happened around 11:15 p.m. near L Street, where the speed limit changes from 25 to 35 mph.
First responders arrived to find a 59-year-old man who had been hit by a four-door car. He died at the scene.
Webb said the man, a local resident, was on the west side of the southbound lane and dressed in dark clothing where there is no sidewalk or crosswalk.
The driver stayed at the scene and continues to cooperate with investigators.
The victim’s name was being withheld until family is notified.
