Oregon State Police say Hwy 97 crash was ‘purposely attempted’

A 35-year-old Bend man is suspected of “purposely” causing a car crash Wednesday that injured two people and closed Highway 97 north of Bend for a half hour, according to Oregon State Police.

The crash happened just before 3 p.m. when a white Pontiac Grand Am crashed head-on with a gray Mercedes sedan south of Deschutes Junction, according to Oregon State Police Trooper Justin Lane.

OSP said the driver of the Pontiac, Aaron Moberly purposely attempted to cause the crash. Moberly and an 18-year-old driving the Mercedes were taken to St. Charles with non-life-threatening injuries, Lane said.

The investigation is still ongoing.
