A Newberg man suffered an apparent broken femur and needed to be airlifted from the scene after crashing his motorcycle Sunday at Wickiup Reservoir, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
Lt. Ty Rupert said dispatch responded to the crash around 10 a.m. and found the rider, 28-year-old Caleb Krause, in the forested area on the Deschutes River arm across from Gull Point Campground.
La Pine Fire Medics were dispatched to the area but couldn’t get to Krause due to the terrain. Medics were taken to the scene by an Oregon State Police Game Trooper to treat the rider. A Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol Boat also responded to the scene.
The boat took Krause from the scene to the Gull Point boat ramp where La Pine Fire Medics were waiting.
Due to the severity of the injury and distance to medical services, an Air Ambulance (Life Flight) responded to the scene as well.
Authorities established a landing zone at the North Wickiup boat ramp and Krause was taken to St. Charles in Bend for treatment.
Rupert said Krause was not wearing a helmet.
