New York reports first US polio case in nearly a decade

Polio virus

New York health officials report the first U.S. case of polio in nearly a decade.

Officials say the Rockland County resident is unvaccinated and has developed paralysis. The state scheduled polio vaccination clinics in Rockland County as a response.

Polio was once one of the nation’s most feared diseases. Annual outbreaks caused thousands of cases of paralysis- many of them in children.
