The bench trial began Wednesday of a Bend-area woman accused of shooting her neighbor more than a year ago.
Joanna Lynn Kasner is accused of shooting 58-year-old Valerie Peterson as she was walking her dog in front of Kansner’s home in the Boonesborough Neighborhood, north of Bend, in January, 2019.
Kasner was indicted on charges of murder, three counts of first-degree menacing, attempted first-degree animal abuse and unlawful use of a weapon.
She pleaded not guilty to the charges in September.
Central Oregon Daily’s Brooke Snavely was in the courtroom today and he spoke with Peterson’s family.
