Outdoor City, USA – a multi-sport event featuring biking, running, hiking and climbing for all ages and abilities is taking place this weekend at Mt. Bachelor.
Beverly Lucas of Bend has worked in the bike racing industry for 20 years as a racer and a bike component designer.
She got the idea for Outdoor City USA 5 months ago after InterBike, one of the largest trade shows in the industry, ceased to exist.
“Everybody thought it was a great idea to have this open event that they could bring consumers in and they can race and ride here at Mount Bachelor,” said Lucas, the event organizer. “It just all came together and clearly everybody is on the same wavelength as I am and we are all here.”
The event features cyclocross and mountain bike races, skills clinics, group rides, runs, hikes and climbs, music, food, and beverages. A variety of vendors and exhibitors are showcasing the latest in outdoor equipment.
“The reason Shimano is here is to get with the consumer and show off our products that we make.” said Ryan Miller, senior manager for Shimano. “From our e-bikes to our clothing with Pearl Izumi, Lazer helmets and all of our hard goods that Shimano makes, our bike components, for anything from gravel, road to mountain bikes.”
Lucas believes the event will be an annual showcase at Mt. Bachelor and expects it to be even bigger next year.
