A Bend couple was killed Saturday evening in Bend when the motorcycle they were riding collided with an oncoming SUV.

According to Bend Police Lt. Brian Beekman, agencies responded at 6:34 p.m. to a call of a serious crash on NW Mt. Washington Drive near Archie Briggs Road on Awbrey Butte.

Bend Police, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Deputies, Oregon State Police and Bend Fire personnel responded to the scene.  Two riders from a crashed motorcycle were found at the scene and were not conscious, Beekman said.

Bystanders were performing CPR and first responders continued those efforts, Beekman said. A Jeep Wrangler was also at the scene of the crash.

43-year-old James Robert Graham of Bend was driving the motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife and passenger,  33-year-old Shannon Elizabeth Lewis, also from Bend, was taken to St. Charles in Bend and died there from injuries in the crash, Beekman said.

Beekman said the preliminary investigation showed that the Graham was riding westbound on Mt. Washington Drive west of Archie Briggs Road.  Graham lost control in a curve and crashed in the westbound lane of travel, he said.

The motorcycle slid into the oncoming eastbound land and collided with a Jeep Wrangler traveling east, Beekman said.

The driver of the Jeep, a 50-year-old Bend woman, remained at the scene of the crash.

Beekman said the investigation showed the driver of the Jeep had been driving at or under the speed limit at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation and police are looking for any witnesses to the crash or events leading up to the crash. Please call the police non-emergency dispatch line, 541-693-6911 if you have any information.
