Missing transient man found safe in Bend

A homeless man in Bend was found safe Wednesday, three days after his friends reported him missing.

Glenn F. Jordan, 58, was last seen at Home Depot in Bend on Sunday.

The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said he was found at Juniper Ridge near 18th and Cooley.

Jordan’s friend called in the missing persons report after not hearing from him in several days. The two usually communicate daily, the friend says, but Jordan’s cell phone has been turned off.

Jordan also missed an appointment on Monday.

Detectives found his campsite and it looks like he hasn’t stayed there recently.

“We just want to check his welfare and make sure he’s okay,” Sgt. William Bailey said. “But if he needs help, we want to be able to locate him and get him the help he needs.”

Bailey says it’s not unusual for them to receive missing person reports from homeless camps.

Searching for missing homeless people is a bit different, he says, because the Sheriff’s Office doesn’t usually have a physical residence to start from. Instead, they check shelters and search camps.

Bailey says it’s important to get the news of a missing person online early. Several missing person cases have been solved because of a shared photo on social media.

Anyone with information on Jordan should call the non-emergency dispatch line at 541-693-6911.
