A California woman reported missing on Mt. Bachelor was found safe, this morning.
According to Lt. Bryan Husband, 30-year-old Ashlee Gingerich went up the Sunrise chair lift at about 3:30 p.m. Christmas Day, but failed to reunite with her group. She did not have a phone with her, nor was she found during a sweep of all runs by Ski Patrol.
Deschutes County Search and Rescue responded, using a drone with infrared to check the area. Efforts continued through the night, with additional searches scheduled for morning.
Lt. Husband says she went down an “unknown road” through a heavily wooded area, eventually crashing into a tree. Gingerich ditched her equipment and walked down the mountain until she tired, curled up under a tree and slept. This morning, she walked to a dog sled trail to the Cloudchaser lift where she contacted Ski Patrol, and was evaluated by medics. Husband tells Central Oregon Daily alcohol may have been involved in the incident.
This is a developing story and will be updated if more information becomes available.
