La Pine man crashes stolen motorcycle after deputies stop pursuit

A La Pine man was arrested Tuesday after speeding away from deputies and crashing a motorcycle he stole from McMinnville, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s office.

According to Sgt. Kent Vander Kamp, at 8:25 p.m. a deputy tried to stop an off-road motorcycle for traffic violations near the intersection of Amber Lane and Big Timber Drive. The motorcycle sped away and refused to stop. The deputy pursued for a brief time before discontinuing the pursuit in the interest of community safety, Vander Kamp said.

About 10 minutes later, Deschutes County 911 received a report of a single-vehicle motorcycle crash at the intersection of Day Road and Snowberry Lane. This was about a half-mile away from where the original pursuing deputy last saw the motorcycle, Vander Kamp said.

A second deputy arrived at the crash scene and provided medical aid until paramedics from the La Pine Fire Department arrived.

The rider, 32-year-old Anthony Lee Scott was taken to St. Charles in Bend with non-life threatening injuries, Vander Kamp said.

During the investigation, deputies discovered the motorcycle was stolen earlier this year from residence in McMinnville, Oregon. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

Scott was cited, in-lieu-of-custody, for possession of a stolen vehicle, attempting to elude and reckless driving.
