A La Pine-area man was arrested early New Year’s Day after firing several shotgun rounds into the floor of a home during an argument, according to the Klamath Falls Sheriff’s Office.
Around 6 a.m., Deschutes County received a 911 call about shots fired after an argument at a home on Linda Drive, south of La Pine.
The call was referred to the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office because the location was in their response area. Deputies were assisted by Oregon State Police and Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
The home was occupied by multiple people, including minor children. Deputies learned one of the home’s residents, 22-year-old Lance Alan Payne, had an argument with the homeowner and fired several small caliber rifle shots into the floor, causing the others in the home to run outside, said Brandon Fowler, public information officer for the Klamath Falls Sheriff’s Office.
Payne was arrested at the scene after the arrival of a Deschutes County armored vehicle. The Klamath County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team was also dispatched, but the incident concluded before they arrived.
Payne is being held in the Klamath County Jail on several charges including unlawful use of a weapon and reckless endangering.
