Jif peanut butter recall for possible salmonella: Look for these lot codes

  |

Specific lots of Jif Peanut Butter are being recalled nationwide because they may contain salmonella. It’s been linked to 14 illnesses and two hospitalizations in several states, but none in Oregon.

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious or even fatal infections in children, the elderly and those with weak immune systems.

The recalled peanut butter was distributed nationwide in retail stores and other outlets. The Food and Drug Administration warns they have a two-year shelf life, so people are urged to check any Jif peanut butter in their homes.

The products include those below that have lot codes 1274425 – 2140425. The lot codes are listed next to the best-if-used-by date along with these UPC codes.

For additional clarification, the FDA says in a separate release that the recall affects lot codes, “only if the first seven digits end with 425.” (See photo below the table).

However, the FDA warns, “This is not a complete list of UPC codes. There are products not listed that fall within the Lot Code range. FDA will continue to provide updates as they become available.”
