Human skeletal remains have been discovered on U.S. Forest Service land about a half-mile south of Deschutes River Woods.
The Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were dispatched to the area about 3:51 p.m. Monday after a hiker reported finding the remains.
Sgt. William Bailey said deputies arrived and confirmed the discovery and have been on the scene ever since. The Deschutes County DA’s office, Bend Police Department, Deschutes County Medical Examiner and Oregon State Police Crime lab are also on the scene to document and collect evidence.
A state forensic anthropologist will examine the remains to determine an identity and cause of death, Bailey said.
No other information was released.
