Gunshots Damage Bend Broadband Fiber Optic Line

Someone fired a gun Saturday morning and damaged a Bend Broadband fiber optic line, interrupting internet service to the Facebook Server in Prineville.

A Bend Broadband employee called police at 6:40 a.m. to notify them of damage to a suspended fiber optic line near NE Brinson Blvd. and Daniel Duke Way. The employee had been investigating an outage in the area when he noticed bullet casings near the damaged line, according to police.

Based on information learned in the investigation, the fiber optic line was believed to have been damaged from one of the rounds fired in that area.
