Fugitive sex offender back in jail, on the lam since May

A convicted sex offender on the lam since May, is back at the Deschutes County Jail.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, David Dale Cook cut off a GPS tracking bracelet near the River Woods Country Store on May 2nd, hours after he was released from jail.

He was arrested last week in Portland and returned to Bend today.

“During the investigation, our detectives had alert the Portland Police Bureau of where Mr. Cook may be hanging out at or hiding out at, and they shared that information with them, so they’d have an idea of where to locate Mr. Cook,” said Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Jayson Janes.

Portland officers contacted him in a parked car, in an area known for drug activity. They discovered his outstanding warrant and took him into custody.

In 2002, Cook was convicted of rape and sodomy and was released to post-prison supervision in August 2017.

He was re-arrested last year for violating terms of his parole.
