An early morning fire destroyed a house in southwest Bend Tuesday, but the family was able to get out before crews arrived.
Bend Fire received multiple 911 calls about a house on fire on Golden Meadow Loop at 12:47 a.m. The home was fully involved when crews arrived, and the family was already outside.
Nearly 20 firefighters worked for nearly an hour to contain the blaze.
Bend Fire says the $650,000 home in River Rim was a total loss.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but Bend Fire wants to remind everyone to review their insurance policies on a regular basis to ensure proper coverage of your home and belongings.
“Other tips that can help in the event of a fire is to put important documents into a fire resistant safe, back up computer files off site to the cloud or similar in case the computer is damaged, and keeping an inventory of your homes contents. This can be accomplished with video, photos and lists and then store those in a safe location or off site.
“All of these can help in the recovery process. The owners here had much of this accomplished and were even able to salvage important documents that were thought to be lost in the fire.”
