Fire destroys DRW home; hot ash on porch to blame

Investigators say hot ash on a back porch caused a Deschutes River Woods home to go up in flames, this morning.

Neighbors called 911 to report the fire around 6:45, saying flames were coming from the back of a manufactured home on Cinder Butte Road.

The homeowner was watching TV in the living room when he heard noises from the attic. He evacuated safely with his dogs and saw the roof was on fire.

Three cats died, but firefighters saved a fourth and Sheriff’s Deputies took it to a local vet for evaluation.

The house is considered a total loss.
