Family files lawsuit two years after suicide of Summit High freshman

Two years after his death, the family of a Summit High School freshman has filed a lawsuit against Bend-La Pine Schools, Deschutes County and 10 un-named students.

Deshaun Adderley was 14 when he took his own life in December 2017.

In the suit, his family said the teen was “one of only a small number of African-American students at Summit” and was the target of “peer-on-peer bullying, harassment and cyber harassment” by other students.

The family is seeking $400,000 for wrongful death, negligence and emotional distress.

School district officials say they are aware of the suit but have not yet been formally served.
