In 1873 an early settler named William Sullivan was searching for some lost cattle in Central Oregon’s Great Basin and he stumbled on one of the real wonders of our region. Named Fort Rock, the volcanic landmark sits on an ice-age lake bed and is only a short day-trip away from Bend.
