Deschutes County Search and Rescue helped an injured hiker to safety Sunday morning at Smith Rock State Park.
Dep. Shane Zook, the assistant SAR coordinator said the injured hiker called dispatch around 10:45 a.m. saying she could not walk and needed help.
The woman, 38-year-old Desiree Velazco of Salem, was injured hiking the park’s Misery Ridge Trail.
Eight SAR volunteers, two DCSO deputies, and members of the Redmond Fire Department responded to the scene.
Redmond Fire crews provided first aid until SAR volunteers arrived with a wheeled litter to bring Velazco down the Mesa Verde Trail to the Crooked River.
From there, Velazco was shuttled across the river in a rubber raft and then taken to St. Charles in Redmond.
