A Bend man driving drunk early Monday morning crashed into a fence and knocked down a power pole on Knott Road, according to the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
Sgt. Grant Johnstone said deputies responded to the crash just after 2 a.m. in the 2100 block of Knott Road.
Deputies arrived and learned 54-year-old Travis Hatfield of Bend, was driving his Ford F250 west on Knott Road, lost control on the icy road and crashed into a residential fence and power pole, shearing the pole at the base. Johnstone said the live electrical wire fell to the ground in front of the house. Hatfield was not inured.
Johnstone said Hatfield was arrested for for felony drunk driving, first-degree criminal mischief and reckless driving. He also had an outstanding warrant for a parole violation. In addition to the criminal charges, he was also issued traffic citations for driving without insurance and failure to install an ignition interlock device.
Employees with Central Electric Cooperative arrived on scene to install a new power pole and re-attach the electrical line, Johnstone said.
