Cyclist badly injured after being hit by car on 3rd St. in Bend

A Bend cyclist remains in critical condition Monday after he was struck by a car Saturday crossing 3rd Street.

The crash happened just before 4:45 at the corner of 3rd Street and Olney Avenue, according to Bend Police Lt. Bob Jones.

Officers said the cyclist, 59-year-old Krieg Brooks, was heading east on Olney when he entered the intersection and was struck by a car turning from westbound Olney onto southbound 3rd Street in front of Black Bear Diner.

Bystanders provided life-saving efforts, but Brooks was unresponsive when officers arrived, Jones said.

He was taken to St. Charles with life-threatening injuries.

The driver, an 84-year-old Bend man, remained on the scene and was cooperative with officers.

As of Monday morning, no one had been cited in the crash.
