A Culver man was seriously injured Saturday in a two-car crash that killed a Stayton woman.
According to Oregon State Police, a Mercury Marquis driven by 88-year-old Mark Higley of Stayton was traveling west on Highway 22E about 5:35 p.m. and tried to turn west onto Fern Ridge Road SE. A Chevy Suburban driven by 49-year-old Windy Dethman of Culver was traveling east on the highway when Higley turned directly into Dethman’s path, nearly colliding head-on with the Suburban. OSP said.
Ella Higley, 88, a passenger in the Marquis, was killed in the crash. Mark Higley was not injured.
Two adult passengers in Dethman’s SUV were identified as 52-year-old Robert Dethman and 33-year-old Neoma Miller, both of Culver. Robert Dethman was seriously injured in the crash. Windy Dethman and Miller were not injured. Additionally, four children in the SUV were not injured.
Highway 22E was closed for four hours after the crash.
OSP was assisted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, ODOT and Stayton Fire and Medics.
