If you like going out into the woods and cutting your own Christmas tree, it just got a little easier.
The Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests are part of a 13-forest pilot project that allows for people to buy their permits online.
“This is really great if you are not able to come in during business hours, or if you’re not able to make it into one of our vendor locations; just gives an added layer of flexibility for folks to buy that $5 permit, print it out, then run up to the forest and get their tree,” said Kassidy Kern with the Deschutes National Forest.
You can also pick up permits at a number of retail outlets and at the Forest Service offices.
Also, if you have a 4th-grader in the house, they’re all eligible for a free permit through the “Every Kid Outdoors” program.
