Oregon State Police on Wednesday confirmed it was a La Pine infant who died early Tuesday morning in a one-car crash on Highway 20 in Harney County.
The preliminary investigation shows a GMC Acadia, driven by 28-year-old Moria Shackelford of La Pine, was westbound on Highway 20 just after 4 a.m. when the car left the road and struck a raised driveway, sending the car airborne.
A 1-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene. A 4-year-old girl was injured and flown by air ambulance to Portland. A 7-year-old boy, 13-year-old girl and Shackelford were all treated at the scene.
An OSP press release said fatigue and failing to use safety equipment are being investigated as the possible contributing factors in the crash.
OSP was assisted by the Hines Police Department, Harney County Ambulance, Burns Fire Department, and ODOT.
No further information was released.
