Central Oregon COVID cases, hospitalizations reach record highs

The COVID surge in Central Oregon continued last week with a record number of cases and current hospitalizations are at an all-time high.

St. Charles on Tuesday reported 68 COVID patients; 14 are in the ICU and on ventilators. The hospital has 30 total ICU beds in its facilities across the region.

Across the region last week, county health departments reported 1,131 new COVID cases – that’s up more than 500% from a month ago and nearly double the previous record high set back in mid-December

In Deschutes County alone, 1 in 73 residents currently has COVID-19, according to the health department.
