CCSO: Tree falls and kills man in Ochoco National Forest

  |

The Crook County Sheriff’s Office said a man was killed Monday when a tree fell on him in the Ochoco National Forest.

According to CCSO, the incident took place when 76-year-old Jackie Milton-Bryce Pierson of Silver Lake was hunting with friends in the Ochoco Mountains near Scotts Camp on Monday night.

The hunting party made camp for the evening, and members awoke around 10:00 p.m. when a tree crashed down into the middle of the camp.

The tree had broken off near the stump because of the wind storm and fallen on Pierson’s trailer. His friends dug through the debris and located Pierson, who had died instantly.

Because of no cell phone service, the friends drove away from the site to call 911 at around 11:12 p.m. Crook County Deputies and Crook County Fire and Rescue confirmed Pierson died instantly.
