The Crook County Sheriff’s Office has identified the body found last week on BLM land near Powell Butte, but the cause of death remains under investigation.
Undersheriff James Savage said the remains discovered are 39-year-old Ann Jeanetta Penton, a homeless woman who lived in a transient camp a couple of miles from where her body was found.
She had been dead for “some time,” Savage said, and Penton was identified through her fingerprints and known tattoos.
Anyone with information on Penton is encouraged to contact Detective Javier Sanchez at 541-447-6398 at the Crook County Sheriff’s Office.
The remains were discovered on December 8th in an area of BLM land off Highway 126 near the Crook/Deschutes county line.
