Taste This! – Mecca Grade Estate Malt

In this week’s culinary adventure, Donna Britt visits a thousand-acre family farm just north of Madras, where Brad Klann and his son, Seth are putting some of the grain they grow through the ancient process of malting.

It’s the anniversary of the Mexican Army’s 1862 victory over French forces, but we celebrate Cinco de Mayo right here in Central Oregon. He went from school superintendent to whiskey distiller. In this week’s culinary adventure, Donna Britt introduces us to one of the founders of new basin distilling company in Madras to find out exactly what goes in to their small-batch craft spirits.

Move over Kentucky! Rick Molitor is making some delicious whiskey along with their first cut vodka and stagger gin, all now available in Central Oregon liquor stores. Donna also tried their Madras mule made with their strong whiskey and fresh Madras mint.

Bevel Craft Brewing is now open on Bend’s east side, in the 9th Street Village, and their hop-centric beers are pushing the envelope of IPA standards.
