Candelight vigil planned for Maliyha Garcia; parents convicted of her murder

A candlelight vigil will be held on October 30th for 5-year-old Maliyha Hope Garcia, a Redmond girl who died from starvation in December 2016.

Her parents, Estevan Adrian Garcia and Sacora Rose Horn-Garcia, were found guilty of Maliyha’s murder last week in a Deschutes County court.

Organizers say the event is “not only to honor precious Maliyha’s memory, but also to raise awareness on the issue of child abuse and prevention.”

The event will be held at 7 p.m. in Centennial Park, at the corner of 7th and Evergreen in Redmond.

Donations will also be accepted of new and/or clean ‘like new’ stuffed animals and books to be donated in Maliyha’s honor to local programs including KIDS Center of Bend & The Redmond Police and Fire Departments.
