BLP Schools offers prospective bus drivers a practice run

Bend-La Pine Schools is hosting school bus test driving events in the coming weeks for those interested in becoming drivers.

Community members will be able to take a school bus through an obstacle course, eat a free BBQ lunch, and receive a job interview on the spot.

“School bus drivers get the chance to make a positive difference in the lives of kids every day, plus they get to be part of an incredible and supportive team,” said Kim Crabtree, Transportation Director for Bend-La Pine Schools.

Events in Bend will take place July 14th, 21st, and 28th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 501 SE Second Street.

Prospective La Pine employees will get a chance at La Pine Middle School on July 21st and 28th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The school district is offering $20 per hour for regular drivers, and those who work more than four hours a week will receive a monthly medical, dental, and vision insurance contribution of more than $1,200.

Drivers will also earn retirement benefits.

Paid training will be provided for those looking to gain or renew a Commercial Driver’s License.
